I don't always make fake Facebook profiles but when I do, I troll the f$%& out of people.

I don’t always make fake Facebook profiles but when I do, I troll the f$%& out of people.

Be it is a friend request on Facebook or LinkedIn, or an email complementing you on your online profile, if you don’t know the sender, check them out online before engaging in any way:

How to quickly check if a profile is genuine

1) Google their email address / username

You’ll quickly see other profiles associated with this identity and if they are consistent and authentic. You’ll also see if the email address has been blacklisted and already has a history of fraudulent activities.

2) Google their real name

If their name is very generic you can search it together with the email address / username. If there are no matches it’s probably because it’s a fake profile.

3) Google their profile image

If the image is being used or has been used by someone else, it might be that their account got cloned. If the name brings up a different image in the search results than the profile image it could mean this is a false profile.

Don’t take anything at face value in the online world. It is not real. It is a virtual world. Just because some of us keep it real doesn’t mean anyone on the internet can be trusted. Be vigilant and smart.

You know, like Sherlock:

The foundation of a house that previously stood here in our garden:

The foundation of a house that previously stood here in our garden: “The Broken Palace”

Renovating a heritage house in Woodstock comes with lots of surprises. Turns out our garden is full of them too!

Lots and lots of rubble we excavated from our garden.

Lots and lots of rubble we excavated from our garden, and this is only the work of one morning.

Loving urban gardening we can’t wait to grow our own herbs and veggies.

But the ground in our garden is not what the lush grass field might have indicated.

The original garden: What lies beneath is covered by heaps of lush grass.

The original garden: What lies beneath is covered by heaps of grass.

Instead of digging up rich soil, we have to tackle the solid surface with pick axes.

Loosening up the soil in our garden has to be done with a pick axe.

Loosening up the soil in our garden is real hard work.

Beneath lies one jaw-dropping curiosity after another:

From dishes and pots and pans, to tools and screws and metal plates, to clothing, in particular shoes, also lots and lots of buttons, to entire intact bottles and lots and lots of glass shards, many many stompies,

to tiles that can be puzzled together from the broken pieces, metal roof sheeting, wooden floors, to entire bricks and even four matching columns,

to old light bulbs, coins from the 1950s, to lots and lots of bones, teeth, hair clips, marbles and other toys,

we’ve probably dug up an entire house by now, together with its contents.

So what happened here?

Neighbours tell me there once stood a house called “The Broken Palace”.

One anecdote goes that, as the naughty boys ran away from the police, they’d take a shortcut into the alleyways behind The Broken Palace. A fishing net would catch the police, as only the boys knew where to slip through.

As we’re uncovering more objects from the depths of our garden, we can only imagine the stories that took place here.

Do you remember The Broken Palace? Does any of the items we found in our garden jog some memories? If so, please get in touch: 🙂

She walks down the street.

She’s rummaging in her shoulder bag.

Despite her not finding what she’s looking for in the endless depths of her humongous purse, something else emerges:

It is light and nifty, agile and quick, it can fly or simply tumble down the road, and it is nearly invisible, for she’s still taken no note of it.

As she keeps on tossing and turning the contents of her handbag, it clings to the side of it, a sneaky little bugger, hitching a ride with a seemingly oblivious host.

A clever strategy of continuance, because this little piece of dirt is going to be around for a long time – 100 years for sure – and it’s staggering how far and wide it spreads without any of its own doing.

There! She found what she was looking for!

The sudden jerk of accomplishment makes her unwanted passenger loose grip.

As she walks on, happily clutching her pouch, remains a mere flap on the ground behind her, with evil oozing out of every pore of it:

The Plastic Bag.

To Keep Bugs Out Of Your Pantry: Place Bay Leaves on the shelves among your food.

To keep bugs away: Place Bay Leaves on the shelves by your food.

Apparently bay leaves repel all sorts of bugs we’d like to keep out of our kitchen: cockroaches, ants, moths, weevils, flour mites.

Simply put a couple of bay leaves in the storage containers to ensure no bugs will try to invade your supplies. Place bay leaves in cabinets and on shelves to make sure the bugs won’t lay eggs.

Bay leaves have many health benefits, so make a potpourri or burn the bay leaves for incense aroma that keeps you calm and the bugs at bay.

Microsoft OneNote comes free with Microsoft Office.

Microsoft OneNote comes free with Microsoft Office.

It’s free

Probably a move to compete with Evernote, giving away software for free is very hard to beat.

It’s already on my computer

OneNote is already installed, as it comes with the Microsoft Office suite.

I’m already signed up

I can simply include OneNote to my Microsoft OneDrive.

It works with the rest of Microsoft

I can insert content straight from other Microsoft Office programs and the edits I make are automatically saved to the corresponding file.

It offers real-time collaboration

I can start a shared notebook for a group project – all already set up in a template in OneNote New Notebook Wizard – and have a good chance most team members can participate because of the points above.

It’s future-proof

As part of the Microsoft Office suite, this program is not going to be discontinued any time soon.

It gets better

Microsoft is continuing to improve OneNote with good results and positive reviews.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome: Best explained with this meme - Irritable Owl Syndrome ;)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome: Best explained with this meme – Irritable Owl Syndrome 😉

If just I could laugh it off as Irritable Owl Syndrome like above. 😉

Instead, I just need to eat some short-chain carbs to get an idea what it feels like to be pregnant. And that can include gas, diarrhea, constipation and nausea similar to morning sickness and all…

As Tiffany Brien demonstrates in her bloated versus flat tummy pictures:

It is the stretching of the intestines to give room to all the bloating that hurts so much. Besides that it’s uncomfortable to expand so rapidly and carry all this extra volume around.

So what to do about Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

A visit to the Gastrointestinal Clinic leaves me with the advice to try the Low FODMAP diet.

Hopefully this should give me a break from IBS, after which I can try to reintroduce each potential irritant one by one to detect which one gives a bad reaction.

Until then, it’s gonna be one of the below… 😦

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is no laughing matter...

BC x Seattle Humane

We are Bellevue College students partnering with Seattle Humane, an impact non-profit organization, with their mission to find homes for the animals in their shelter that are normally considered "unadoptable." Seattle Humane is unlike any animal shelter. They take in animals no matter the breed, age, or physical condition and hold them for as long as it'll take them to find proper homes for these animals. Their hard work and care is exactly what we need to create a better environment for the animals we love. Please follow our instagram page @bcforhumane for more animals in need of a home.
