Looking at activities to do around #CapeTownForFree, I thought how can I make the most out of #SANationalParksWeek?

During Heritage Month SANParks offers free entry to all of South Africa’s National Parks for the duration of a full week.

The gates are simply open and the ticket office is closed during #SANationalParksWeek at Oudekraal.

Entrance fees are pretty low in most cases, so unless you do the big parks further away from Cape Town the savings are minimal.

But any reason is a good reason to visit SANParks, so why not take advantage of such a great offer.

I’m particularly interested in the places I would not normally visit, so googling the closest SANParks to Cape Town I stumbled across Oudekraal.

Oudekraal: A hidden gem in Cape Town

Oudekraal: Perfect for a braai with the whole family.

Oudekraal is not that easy to find, but once you know it you can’t miss it: Drive from Camps Bay to LLandudno and watch out for a turn down to the sea after the 12 Apostles Hotel.

Oudekraal is a landscaped braai area around boulders reaching into the sea. It’s quite steep down, but plateaus are levelled into the ground, leaving perfect braai spots.

A lovely braai spot at Oudekraal.

It’s brimming with history and signs around the park invite to learn more about it.

Interesting: Oudekraal’s history is explained on informative signs.

In addition Oudekraal has a quaint little beach, an enclosed bay with lovely sand, shallow waters, perfect for a dip in the sea.

Even when the weather's not perfect, Oudekraal Beach is a sheltered spot.

Oudekraal is perfect for a braai with friends, family, colleagues, offering fantastic views, lots to explore, much to learn, and a beach in reach for a quick refresher.
